A quick, dirty double bazooka for 6m.
6m is a great, fun band when there is sporadic E propagation especially during
our summer months. In the past I have used a homebrew 3 ele LFA (G0KSC
design) and a homebrew vertical delta loop and they both performed well....esp
the 3 ele. However, due to my ongoing need for stealth, low profile
antennas I was looking for something less intrusive. I though about a
simple vertical dipole but came across the double bazooka described in the link
below.
Here is a link to a page I found on the Internet for a double bazooka antenna I
have made for 6m .........
Double Bazooka
There is a lot of information on the internet regarding these antennas but I
used the calculator on the page in the link above and used a piece of spare
RG213 that I had stashed away in my garage......I hate throwing away any wire!
It took me less than 2 hours to make, trim using my FA-VA5 analyzer and mount
vertically at the top of the section of fibre glass pole that supports part of
my EFT antenna. The top part of the antenna is at approximately 6m above
ground.
So far this E's season I have worked 23 DXCC (as of 02/06/2026) which has
exceeded my total for last year when I was using my 3 ele LFA. Just goes
to show what can be done on the 'magic band' when conditions are right!
