Below is a selection of photographs of my station as it was in early 2008. Click on the thumbnail to view a larger image.
Above left and centre are photos of my station showing my Yaesu FT-1000MP, Ameritron AL-811X, LDG AT-1000 and the K9AY controller. Above right is my quarter wave vertical for 80m after repairs in early February 2008 taken on a foggy, frosty February day. The vertical still show signs of the damage suffered in the photo below.
Above left a photo of the K9AY loop taken on a foggy, frosty February day. The K9AY is proving to be a pretty good receiving antenna though I do think it is a little too close to the house. Later this year I intend to move it around the side of the house where it will be more in the open and, hopefully, will perform even better. Above right is a photo of my 80m vertical, taken on 7th January 2008. You can clearly see that it bends 90 degrees from about halfway up. It stayed like this for several weeks until the winds dropped enough to dismantle it for repair. If the trees hadn't been so close I may have been able to pull it upright again but the guys had got well and truly tangled in the branches. It was in this state for about three or four weeks and continued to perform very well with regular 5/9 plus reports from the U.S.A. and several new prefixes including VK, ZL, ZS, XE and LU!!
Above left is a photo of the latest addition to my station (10th July 2008) - a quarter wave vertical for 40m. It is constructed using a Spiderbeam fibre glass pole with 4mm wire inside it. At the moment it only has 4 radials but these will be added to as soon as the rain stops!! British summer weather delays antenna work .... again!! This has been erected in place of the K9AY which has now been sold. There was nothing wrong with the K9AY, it's performance just didn't match that of the 4-Square.
Above right is my FT1000-MP, Heil Pro-Set Plus, Ameritron AL-811, LDG AT-1000 atu, Comtek ACB-4 Array Switch and a power meter to monitor the 4-Square dump load.
Above left - Tokyo Hy-Power HC-2000, 2KW atu ..... a lovely atu. Five antenna positions and has replaced the LDG AT-1000.
Above centre - the station line up at G4ATA June 2009. On top of the FT-1000MP is the Comtek controller for the 80m 4-square and the controller for the pair of phased verticals for 40m.
Above right - the replacement for the Ameritron AL-811, a Dentron MLA-2500B. This example still has original Eimac 8875's in it, unfortunately they are about as rare as hen's teeth these days but I'm told that 3CX800A7's will go in with cooling mods. If you have a pair of spare 3CX800A7's please e-mail me!
